The Circus Ring of Fame
18th Annual Induction Ceremony
FACT SHEET

DATE: Saturday, January 21, 2006

TIME: 2:00 p.m. (A 30-minute concert by The Sarasota Circus Concert Band, under the direction of Charles Schlarbaum, will precede the ceremony. Concert begins at 1:30.)

LOCATION: The park at St. Armands Circle, Sarasota (located 2.5 miles west of
the intersection of U.S. 41 [Tamiami Trail] and Florida #789, via #789 and the John Ringling Causeway).
PROGRAM: 18TH annual induction of new members.

INDUCTEES:

  • Charly Baumann (deceased)—Performed for 35 years as a tiger trainer and for 13 years served simultaneously as both tiger trainer and performance director for Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey.
  • The Bertini Family—Has circus roots going back many years. Particularly noted for their teeterboard act in which they performed while mounted on unicycles.
  • Roberto de Vasconcellos (deceased)—A member of Portuguese royalty (he was a count). An elegant horseman specializing in the art of riding known as high school or dressage in which the horse executes various maneuvers prompted by invisible body cues from the rider.
  • Ward BellFlyers—Unique flying trapeze troupe. Introduced a tandem act with nine participants in a single routine with three sets of flyers performing simultaneously, side by side.

ADMISSION: Free. Open to the public at no charge.
