2006 Ring of Fame Induction

Sunday, January 22, 2006 - St. Armands Circle, Sarasota, FL
The 2006 induction of circus greats into the The Circus Ring of Fame was held on Saturday January 21st in Sarasota, FL on a site developed by John Ringling, St. Armands Circle.

Inducted into the Ring of Fame this year:

  • Charly Baumann sponsored by Allen Bloom and the friends of Charly Baumann

  • Count Roberto de Vasconcellos, Viconde Ponte de Barca sponsored by Oreste and Ann Canestrelli, Joseph Cincotta and Frank Barnett

  • Ward-Bell Flyers sponsored by Nikki Theisinger and Rodney Bell

  • The Bertinis sponsored by Circus Maranatha

The ceremony started with a 30 minute concert of circus music presented by the Sarasota Circus Concert Band under the direction of Charles Schlarbaum.

Standing next to Charlie is Tim Holan, former long time trainmaster and General Manager on Ringling Red Unit, Kitty Smith, and Mike Melssen former Ringling Blue General Manager.



Sarasota's Mayor, The Honorable Mary Anne Servian welcomes the crowd at the january 26, 2006 Ring of Fame Induction Ceremony on St. Armands Circle, Sarasota, FL. To the left is Master of Ceremonies John Herriott.

Speeches were made by the sponsors, family and friends about each inductee. Then the plaques were unveiled.
