"That Daring (But Not so Young) Man on the Flying Trapeze"
TONY STEELE is coming to Circus Juventas in St. Paul! Talk about your active senior! Soon to be 70 years old and still flying on a trapeze regularly, Tony Steele will be teaching at St. Paul’s Circus Juventas, a performing Circus Arts school from Feb. 6-9th. A special celebration open to press and public will be Friday, Feb. 10 from 5-7pm.
This legendary world famous flyer is listed in the World Book of Guinness records as the first person to complete a three and a half back somersault to leg catch in 1962. Joining the Circus when he was only 15 years old, Tony has lived Circus for the past 55 years. Author of "The ABC’s of Flying", he received the 2002 World Acrobatics Lifetime Achievement Award. Tony and Lily (his wife) performed all around the world including Denmark, Portugal, France, Mexico, and Japan. They were featured at the Seattle World’s Fair in 1962. Lily and Tony were married for 37 years until her death in 1997. For more than a year after Lily died, severe depression surrounded Tony until he jumped back onto his trapeze bar.
