Wednesday, July 13, 2005 - Pittsburgh, PA.
Charlie Smith known to many as the “Greatest Trainmaster on Earth” celebrated his 90th Birthday on July 5th.
Charlie's wife Kitty arranged for a surprise birthday party and Peggy Williams of Ringling Bros. Barnum & Bailey helped to get the word out to circus fans, show people, railroaders, and the many people that have had the good fortune to know Charlie through the years. The objective was to receive 90 cards. The event was a huge success, some 40 people attended and well over 100 cards were received. It took Charlie 2 days to read them all. Charlie and Kitty asked that I post this in order to express their sincere thanks to everyone.
